I just returned from a week-long trip to Saint-Petersburg where I met up with a girl I had met online.
We had communicated via internet and phone and our proficiency in each other's language was a bit lacking, but we were able to communicate fine with dictionaries and basic phrases. The time we spent together was magical, made even better by Petersburg's White Nights. I'm planning another trip for March for her birthday.
I agree wholeheartedly with people who have written here about Russia and how safe it is, the friendliness of the people, the warmth,
etc.
I also endorse completely Elena's description of the differences between American/Western women and Russian and Eastern European women. A guy would be hard-pressed to find a woman of 21 or 22 who could hold a literate conversation about what is going on in the whole world, not just their little corner of it in any western country, unless the woman was a student or more informed than most. Russian women are SMART, WARM, CARING, and most of all, desirous of being wanted, loved by, and cared for by a man who isn't playing games with them.
For too long Eastern Europe has been a sort of sexual playground for single (or married guys alone) who go there with money and lies about looking for the right woman. Then they proceed to sleep with as many girls as they can find and are on their way to their next conquest. I actually met two American guys in St. Pete who had come there from Prague and were thrilled that they had each found two women to sleep with them together. In other words, ugly Americans using their money to give others a bad name.
I am determined to find a way to make something with Lena. I have considered moving to Russia; I am retired with a comfortable financial situation so there is nothing keeping me here in the US. As time goes by, Russia is looking better and better as a matter of fact.
Thanks for dispelling the myths about Mail Order Brides. Western women should be so lucky as to have what Russian and Eastern European women have to offer their men.
