The letter I received from my Russian 'friend' I had initially viewed as also a scam, but after the second letter, I fell for the bait. I got pretty far along including some fifteen letters. Pretty crazy. I wanted to believe in love and trust, but too many red flags kept popping up such as her not responding to my request to come to 'her' for a visit. After about eleven letters, I could not justify not looking into russian bride scams.
I realized that I was unable to find out her IP address location through Gmail because it does not work like a typical IP address, and there was something under the 'Show Original' ( the triangle next to 'Reply' in Gmail ) that said "X-Mailer: The Bat! (v3.0) Professional" A friend told me this is a popular mass emailing program often associated with spammers. This was my first major clue. Besides the request for money, my next conclusive piece of evidence was actually putting a sentence from one of her first emails into Google with quotes. I was directed to this site where I found word for word sentences and paragraphs from her letters. End of case! Good luck to everyone else.
