I was curious about some e-mails that I was receiving from someone named Ekaterina Skulkina in Kemerovo, Russia.

I read another letter from a man on your website from this same person. At the bottom of the letter were some pictures. To my surprise, it was almost one of the same letters that I had received. Needless to say I was shocked when I saw  that the pictures there were the same ones that she had sent to me.

I am thankful that I found this letter. It saved me from making a bad mistake.

Alyona (Ukraine)

Here are 2 letters are from a new scam artist. She contacted me recently through  friendfinder. I do not have her last name and she has not asked me for money. But the rest looks like very much like Scam artist material.

Letter 1

Hello, Prince!
I've read your ad recently and you seemed like an interesting person to me. I would like to get to know you better! Well, let me try and tell you a little about me,
My name is Alyona.  I'm 27 years old and I'm from Ukraine. I work in a wholesale perfume trade company as a receptionist. I love my job! New people, meetings, phone calls all that bring me great pleasure and feeling that I'm needed and can help. About me, I am a fun loving and funny person (so I am told). I enjoy what life has to offer me, and like the outdoors immensely, at the same time considering myself rather adventurous. I enjoy sports: swimming, basketball and volleyball. It keeps me fit, young at heart and mind. Music just turns me on, any kind of it- from Gershveen, Rahmaninov to Beatles and Queen. My passions are reading, theatre and traveling. I dream to see the whole world one day.  I am a very giving person, and would like very much to be able to give of myself, to someone who would give back all the love, tenderness, and romance that I give them. I would like to be happy with someone and be able to share a lifetime of devotion, honesty, and love with someone truly special who will be my half. That's my main and the biggest dream now. If you would like to learn more about me, just write back.  I hope you are having a great day!
Write me to e-mail:
Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Letter 2

It was a pleasure receiving a letter from you. So I'd like to get to know each other better through our correspondence. And I'll be glad to tell you more about myself. I'm from Ukraine as you already know and live in Kiev, the capital of our country. I like this beautiful and ancient city with lots of parks and a picturesque view of the Dnipro river which runs through the city and divide it into two halves. The people here are (for the most part) warm and friendly but the city is so big, everyone moves so fast and many just dont slow down to "Smell the Roses". I'm sure the place where you live is also rather interesting and there is something to go around. I'm planning to visit your country soon. I heard a lot about it and can't but see it with my own eyes. That's my dream. Tell me about that place where you live, where you like to spend your spare time? Let me know more what is America and what people live there? Are you fond of travelling? If it is so we have much in common. I also enjoy it. Every summer I try to find time to travel. I am fond of sports. It keeps me fit and gives me strength to enjoy life more and more. While I was in the Institute I attended shaping regularly but now I only go to the gym and swim in summer. I neither smoke and nor drink. My height is 168 cm (5'6"), my weight is 60 kg (132 lbs). I have never been married and have no children. Ask me everything what you want to know about me. I promise to be sincere in my letters.I will be waiting for your answer . If it is possible could you send me your photo.
Warm regards.

Ekaterina Skulkina (Kemerovo, Russia)

Thanks for your web site! Below are letters, pictures, and details of an experiment with Ekaterina from Kemerovo using the email address

I am a 49 year old white American male. This woman sent me an email after I posted an ad at a personal dating site. Curiosity about her home town landed me at this black list and someone's description of a "bunk bed" picture (for a different name) which sounded like the one sent to me. I then sent to her from a second email address using a different name, thanking her for contacting me and asking if she would please send more. (I.e., I am the one who initiated contact from the second address, pretending that she had contacted me.) I used a totally different writing style and completely different subjects for the two contacts. The second email address was one letter behind the first.

From the first email address, my first letter expressed concern about scams and asked for evidence that she was "real". (I hadn't yet seen your web site, so it was a sincere letter based on a hunch.) Her second letter had nothing to do with my concerns, so I replied with subtle insults (nothing nasty!) that should be recognized by an English-speaking human. ("Thanks for the second picture. I see that you are really packing on the groceries my sweet little dumpling! As I write this, my ribs hurt so bad that I have tears streaming down my face!") Her third letter completely ignored anything said in my prior two letters. My third letter returned similar mild insults and didn't hear from her again.

From the second email address, I wrote one letter behind what was received at the first address. Both email addresses received letters with the same time stamp, except one form letter behind to the second address. Being able to anticipate the next letter, I wrote letters from the second address that mirrored what I was about to receive - even someone who was translating would see that I was mimicing (and mocking) the letter that she was about to send. Additionally, I signed with a different name each time, and each of these names was different from the one that is in the address stamp in the header. The third letter was finally personalized by including the name that is in the email header -- which I had never signed on any of the letters -- a name that is more often than not taken to be a female name.

In both cases, I received three identical letters and photos. The first letter includes the "stuffed animal" photo, the second letter includes the "zoo monkey" photo, the third letter includes no photo. Apparently, this organization actually reads replies to the third letter -- I never received a fourth letter to either email. However, I was spammed for smut to the second email address -- a yahoo account which has only been used a few times since it was created a year ago.

The three letters and two pictures sent to me are below. The original names of the image files were 1.jpg and 2.jpg. Please note that I would never be so mean as to mock someone in the manner that I have described unless I was certain that a scam was in the making. But as long as I was certain of the game plan, it sure was an enjoyable intellectual sport!

I think that you have learned(found out) about me much. I was familiar with young people, but not one of them might not it is pleasant to me. I have found you and I think that you approach me. It is possible for me to make it how you think? Once I had long attitudes(relations) with one guy. We met it(him) two years. I thought that we marry. But his feelings to me have grown cold, he began to concern badly to me, began to drink and carry out(and spend) a lot of time with the friends a lot of. he told him bad things about me. he became rough with me. His(its) friends consist in a mafia and he began one of them. he had a good time with other women. he liked this sweet life. I might not continue to meet him and we have left. he in any way has not reacted to it. I was strongly upset and after that I was strongly disappointed in Russian men. Elena Berezina (Novosibirsk, Russia)

I am a single father of 48 years and very lonely, I received this letter from Elena Berezina offering me love and devotion. I took it hook line and sinker, guys if it sounds too good to be true it is!!! A SCAM. She first told me about how she lived with her mother and she needed 320 of the visa, then I said I could not do this. Then questions about trust had made me feel guilty. Well, I thought she was putting herself out of Russia I could help this young and beautiful woman of 29 years who would make this old mans world spin again. Well soon it became $900 she had a uncle that could get a discount on the ticket and visa. So next thing I knew one lonely day I sent the $900 western union, Don't EVER Do this, It is CASH. Soon after I got a letter stating that the embassy would not issue a visa with the one way ticket and she needed to purchase a return ticket. Asked me for another 600. Soon after I got an email from this other lady I had emailed and told her I was sending for this Elena Berezina, and she would be marring me. The other lady warned me about this and the photo of a girl like a fashion model and so forth. The profile fit like a glove. I call western union and stop the other 600. She did get the 900. and I could not stop it. Mean while I get another email from Elena Berezina, and she tells me her mother died and her uncle cancelled the ticket and she was not coming to the USA. SCAM. Since I got with Western Union and found out the addresses given to me were not even the same. The Proof of pick up I got from Western Union was in Yoshkar-Ola, RU. She told me she was from Novosibirsk. I also found out this person could even be a man using a studio photo and writing to get money from American men.

Elena Vasina  (Kemerovo, Russia)

Elena Vasina contacted me first on January 22, 2002, in response to my ad on Absolute Agency. A scammer is obviously hiding behind this pretty girl. She claim to be 29 and does not hesitate to use her mother to make her case more convincing. After a couple of letters she is in love and wants to come to America. She then decides to come to visit me. I tell her that this does not make any sense, as I have the money for the trip and she does not. She then send me the last letter with the request for money for her tourist visa ($320, ie. $220 for the visa and $100 for the trip to Moscow to get the visa.) and the very suggestive pictures of herself lying on a sofa and "ready for action". This scammer is not very sophisticated. It just pastes a few lines of response with precooked stories about her and how she feels. The precooked part of the message was obviously written by a different person in some of the letters.

Her address is:
Lenina street 20 -12
Elena Vasina

Her e-mail is

Here is her first letter. She misspelled my name many times, even if I would sign it correctly on each letter I sent to her. I had to tell her explicitly in one of my letters. We exchanged 8 letters total. The last one was sent on February 15. I never sent any money. I have not heard from her since.

First letter:

Hi Michael !!.
To me very much to like your structure on it a site and I to decide to write you. This day will be main in my life. I search for the person with which I could To conduct all life. I to do(make) it, because I am not so good to know the English language. But it should not be a problem between us. I to want to study your language and to learn(teach) you Russian. It will be very interesting and it is useful for us. As to know language and culture other country it is very important. It is the help to us will speak is open. I to want to tell you, that acquaintance through the Internet this new to me. I never to do(make) it earlier. I very much to worry and to be afraid. I to not trust, that such happens, but my girlfriend to get acquainted and now she(it) is happy. I to decide(solve) to try to write to you. I to worry, but I shall be open and there will be a story about itself. Now I shall speak about myself. ??. Me call Elena. I live in Russia in city of Kemerovo. It is the very large country, which to have was a lot of an opportunity, but as I to think, she(it) to not open yet all potential. In Russia is all for good life: resources, there is a lot of ground, the clever people, but now there is a transitive period. The people here trust, that all will be speed well, but for the present it is not known how many still to wait. Though the people, which want to work and to have the purpose in life, live happily. There were only people, which bring up at kommunism and very difficultly to break their stereotype about life, when for you to do(make) all state. They to not know, that such the market, market attitudes(relations) and business. You do not think, that I so to divide(share) the people and to speak so, but it is the Russian reality. I to think what there to know about Russia and to know our life. I too much to know about your country, but to want to study more concerning it. You will learn(teach) me about your country and city? It is very interesting to me! I live in city Kemerovo. It is small city in comparison with other cities. It(he) is in east part Russia Our city is industrial here again to make the much industrial goods (to add about city). Now you to know about, where I live. I to think, that it was interesting to you to learn(find out) it. I was born and has grown here. Here I to go in a children's garden, at school and in university. With me to remain very good memoirs on my childhood. I was the very vigorous and inquisitive girl. Now to me 29 years and I already to work. I to work in library. It is children's library. She(it) small and only for the schoolboys. We have a lot of book for school and almost all the book the Russian writer and poet. In our library each day to come it is a lot of children. With them it is very interesting to work. I to explain them what book by him(it) it is better to take to study only on an excellent(different) estimation. They very much to love our library. With me to work 4 men. It is the women, at which very much wide experience and I to study at them. I to work here it is not so long. In university I to study as building faculty. I to receive maximum formation(education) and should work as the engineer the builder. But at us the work and I can not find such is very difficult to find. Everywhere to require(demand) the experience it is not less 5 years and young experts very difficultly to find work. I can be arranged at work in library. I to not pity(regret) about it, but I always to dream be the builder and to work in building organization. I to trust, that my dream will be a reality. I shall aspire to this. My work not complex(difficult), but she(it) to borrow(occupy) a lot of time. My working day to begin in 9.00am. At us is not present dinner and I to come back home only in 20.00pm. The library is far from our house and I to go before work on the bus. I to love to work. You not strongly to get tired when to read my letter? I simply to want to tell to you the life. I to hope, that you to understand, that I to write to you. Now I very much to get tired and I shall write about itself more in the following letter. I shall wait from you the letter and information on you, if you to want, that I to know about you am more.
Good to you of day.
I hope your friend Elena.

Last letter:

????????????, . Greetings my love Michel . Excuse me for that that I so long to not write to you. I was not able to do it as to have problems about the computer. I to want to congratulate you with Valentines Day. I called in the American embassy, they have advised me to take the visa of the tourist, This visa B-2, she (it) is valid during 90 days. She (it) costs (stands) 320 dollars, but I now do not have such money. If you can, have gone them to me through Western Union, the address of branch: Agent Location Details MOSCOW BUSINESS WORLD LENINA PROSPEKT, 137/3 KEMEROVO , 650003 Elena Vasina. When you will send money you necessarily write ten numbers of a remittance. I am very glad that you want to see me, unfortunately, to meet are necessary money, but money it only a paper, the main thing that we shall meet you. We should trust each other because we like each other and we soon shall meet. I called to the uncle to Moscow and it (he) has told that can make to me the ticket at a discount, but for this purpose it is necessary to know where the international airport nearest to you. Still I talked to my girlfriend which works in travel agency and she (it) has told me that visa B-2 the best variant that to us you to meet. She (it) speaks that when we shall meet we can discuss that as we shall live further. Yesterday I saw sexual dream about us with you, it (he) has very much liked me also I want to tell it (him) to you. To me has dreamed as we with you we meet, as you take me on hands, we go to you home. At you at home we go at once in a bedroom and you start to undress me, our hearts are beaten synchronously, we are passionately kissed also you start to learn (teach) me to all pleasures of sex. I to love you and I start to understand that love this such strong feeling, I am glad that I could to test it (him) due to you.
With love forever yours

Elena Fefelova (Surgut, Russia)

Beware of Elena Fefelova - she is a scam artist. She knows all the right things to put in writing to attract a mate. She states she is a bookkeeper in the city of Surgut (Siberia) Russia. She starts immediately with letting the victim know that she has had a lot of bad luck in her life. A recent breakup with her extremely abusive, and alcoholic boyfriend. Her father allegedly killed by rebels in Chezneya, and her mother died of cancer. She will even provide photos of them which appear to be made within the past 3 years. She has even made a poor quality copy of an American Visa in which her photo was pasted into the book. This has been reported to for follow up. She will let you know she is madly in love with you, and then say she wants to visit you. She insists on paying her own way, and then "buys" her visa from a local agency at an inflated price. Within 2 weeks, she will send you an electronic copy of the visa, then request money for a plane ticket, which is always less than what you have already told her it would be. She will claim to have pawned some sentimental jewelry left by her deceased mother and ask you to wire her money via Western Union. After the money is wired, forget any correspondence with this lady. Her last known e-mail address is Forget assistance from Western Union. I suggest if you get scammed, stop payment on your check, or credit card, and take your chances in court. Western Union in Russia should be able to find the person who received the money, and they can settle it in their country. You may not be able to use Western Union's services again, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Inna Dyomina (Stavropol, Russia)

I am a 31 year old male working in the SE in a technical field.
This scammer got me for 900 dollars. A small price to pay for my blatant suppression of common sense. I look back now and I see what mistakes I made. I noticed the anti-scam guide had all the hard lessons I learned on my own and quite a few I had yet to see. I have run across three scammers and only one got away with any money here she is Inna Dyomia.

She can also be found with a different name but the same pictures on Page 11 of the May 29th update.under the name Elena Dmitrova. I started correspondance on May the 6th 2001 and she hit me up for money June 4th of 2001 Her claim was that it would cost her 1350 US$ to travel to the Atlanta airport but she had 400 dollars already saved. Once money was sent she quit writing.
The e-mail address she was using (same as on page 11) was
One of the reasons I was suckered is she would send at least a page a day and would answer all sorts of questions I had about her, the city she lived in Stavropol.
I hope this stops someone from making the same mistake as I did.  If anyone has any need to contact me they can reach me at
Thanks for such a good sight,

Irina Smirnova (Omsk, Russia)

I am a 35 year old American from Shreveport LA. I have been involved over the internet with a lady who claims her name is Irina Smirnova, we have been talking since two weeks before Christmas of last year. She told me she was a cook, and her mum, (marina) and dad (andrey) lived with her, she sent many pictures, all with hardly any clothes on. Later in January she said she wanted to come here. She told me her aunt worked at an airport and could get her ticket cheep. She also told me that visa, and passport was 250.00 dollars so I sent money through Western Union,to a bank
then later she asked for 750.00 dollars for plane ticket, to come here, then on the the 26 of Jan she said she could not come because she needed money for insurance to get on the plane. so I sent 300.00 Dollars. But when she wrote me last she told me my mum is now her mum and to meet her at the airport, she didn't show up. I AM IN CONTACT with the Russian Embassy and the US senators about this matter. Please don't let anyone else get hurt by this woman. When I told her I was black, she didn't reply to my letter, I also asked how after the third letter she knew my name - I don't remember writing that to her. I hope she is brought to justice.

Hi, my name is Irina.
I live in Russia. I am a teacher in the school. I love children and animals very much. I want to get acquainted with the man, who will be a support in my life. I am 24 years old. I want to get acquainted with a man from 27 and older. Age is not the main thing for me. The main thing is love and mutual understanding! I do not notice a difference in ages. I hope only for my true love, and I hope very much that all with us will be good! I agree to answer all questions that interest you. I am anxious for your letters!

Julia Kolossovskaya (Moscow, Russia)

I am single 45 year old Canadian male working in the Information Technology field.

I would like to send out a warning to all you guys, especially to those of you who are with the Anastasia Agency, as this scammer claimed to have got hold of my details from the Anastasia magazine. My warning is about this particular scammer's activities. The woman's name (or the name she gave) was Julia Kolossovskaya. The scam she tried to pull on me was straight out of the Cyberguide. I received her first letter around October of last year. She contacted me by letter saying that she had seen my advertisement in the Anastasia Catalog. The pattern was very close to Cyberguide. There was one difference with this scammer however; she refused to use the internet at all, in spite of my frequently urging her to do so. She claimed the reason was that she did not get home from work until after 8pm so it was not safe to go out to use the internet cafe. Notice that in her 4th letter however she claims to be available at home any time after 6pm! She preferred phone calls and (if pushed) letters. She never gave her home address, but only a P.O. BOX, although she did give her phone number. In any event over the next couple of months she encouraged me to phone her, although when I did her line was often busy or she was not in. She very much disliked writing letters, and would only write to me at my insistence. Although she did not declare her "undying love" or anything like that though she called me "Dearest Michael" on her second letter and ended her third letter "with sweet kisses". I followed the advice given on this website and corresponded with a number of other Russian women, so I sensed this show of affection was way too fast in our relationship. For me these were early warning signs that something might be wrong, but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt unless any other warning signs appeared. When I spoke to her over the phone her comprehension of English appeared to be very good.

By January she seemed to be getting anxious to meet. I agreed and stated that I planned to be visiting Russia Summer of this year. She said it was too long to wait but agreed to write to me. I phoned her recently to wish her a happy birthday and happy women's day. It was then she attempted to pull the scam. She said she would wait no longer to see me and did not want to write me any more letters (she only wrote 4). She did not want to wait till the Summer and she knew someone who was a travel agent and that she could get tourist visa to come to Canada in about 2 to 3 weeks. I told her that was virtually impossible for her to get tourist visa to visit Canada, and that the same restrictions applied to the USA and Australia. I told her that my Agency had strongly advised all of us men that her suggestion was impossible. She again responded that she could not wait until Summer of this year to see me (although this has not been a problem with any of my other correspondents), even after I stated that I could not stop her corresponding with other men if she wanted to, and that she would lose nothing by meeting with me in Summer. She persisted with this attempted scam even after I warned her that her suggestion seemed to fit that of known scams on the internet to get men from the West to pay for non-existent visitors visas for Russian and East European women, and that I was becoming very concerned. She responded with the classic " I have known you for some time" "you should be able to trust me" stuff that the Cyberguide mentions and ended by stating she no longer wished to continue our relationship.

Dearest Michael,

Also, I want to tell you that I like you and I'm very interested in our relations. So, I offer you meet at first and then decide, do we want to have relations or not. Please, let me know, what do you think about  my suggestion. I would be happy to hear you by the phone. Really I want to know you better and I hope we'll like each other.

Her actual attempt to scam me was made over the phone after I received her 4th letter. This could indicate a new level of sophistication in the "scam game". Letters leave a trail that can be used for prosecution and so do emails. This scammer's phone based method would appear to leave little evidence for a Prosecutor to follow up. With hindsight her refusal to use the internet, her reluctance to write letters, and her using a PO.Box instead of a home address should have warned me something was very wrong. Many thanks to the Cyberguide. Buying it has turned out to be one of the smartest investments I have made. I would also like to thank this web site and all of you guys who have contributed to it. Thanks to you all I was ready for the "visitors visa" scam attempt. My feelings are hurt - no one likes to be made a fool of - but at least she failed to rip me off and I have an opportunity to warn others of this woman's corrupt activities.
Good luck to all who are searching for a good honest Russian wife. Heaven knows we need it.

Lubov Bazhenova (Tyumen, Russia)

I am a male, 35 years old, single, college degree, professional. I have been corresponding with Lubov Bazhenova until I decided to check into her at this site and I surely found her name along with her city of Tyumen. I have a couple of new pictures to add for future reference. The one that tipped me off was her wearing a bikini on what looks like an expensive boat. That along with wanting $250 for a visa. Hope this helps someone.

I am a 46 year old computer programmer, divorced. I did not initiate this contact, began on Jan 22, 2002, and I am not a fool, I immediately started looking into this analytically. It didn't take long. From my readings of letters and comparison of photographs, on your site, I have determined that it is the person or persons using the subject names above that are responsible for the scam currently being run on me. I have not yet received any money request and have had no letter for 5 days? Maybe they are on to me. I found out in plenty of time thanks to your site!

PS: I have gathered a large amount of data on the systems this group uses to access the internet. I believe I could get their service disconnected but would have better chances if I had more that just my data. I am interested in contacting directly any reporter to your site that would be willing to share the email headers with me. I will compile the necessary tracings and a report of usage. This could slow down this problem for a time. I am also interested in providing assistance in determining questionable contacts. If you have requests that involve suspected scammers I am willing to volunteer a reasonable amount of time to finding the facts in individual cases and perhaps establishing a blacklist of email systems that these persons use.
