Hi,I am a 42 year old white male living in the USA.  About a month ago I was contacted by a women going by the name of Tatyana. I was contacted through Matchdotor.com even before I had a picture posted. She is supposed to be a school teacher in Ivanovo, Russia and pays to use the Internet at school. She told me her father had left when she was young and she had been raised by her mother and grandmother. Her mother has remarried and moved away. Her grandmother has died and she lives in her apartment. She describes her situation as being very lonely and does not like the life in Russia.  I have been very suspicious of her from the beginning. 

One reason is because  she contacted me first which from what I have read is something that Russian women do not normally do. But I thought maybe this was an exception to the rule. I asked her for her mailing address and she would not give it. She said that the mail was very bad in Russia and most of the time people did not get their letters. I have no way of knowing if that is true or not so I had to give her the benefit of the doubt. She said the learned English at the University of Ivanovo. I tried to trick her and got on the Internet and found a picture of the university and emailed it to her and asked if it was where she went. She sent me a picture of her at the university standing among other students. So I am thinking now that she could be for real.  I received a total of eight emails from her and four photos. Each email was a little more intense. 

She never confessed love for me but she did say she was starting to have feelings for me as you will be able to tell in the letter I have enclosed. She never asked for money but I got the impression that things were leading in that direction. I did tell her that she looked at me as her night in shinning amour and that someday she thought I was going to come to rescue her someday. Since then I have not heard from her except for a letter I got today. I have enclosed a copy of it and I will explain it a little later.  Yesterday I was looking on the Blacklist and found a women named Tatyana on it . She had very similar features such as eyebrows, eyes and nose. I cannot be positive that it is the same women.  

Now for the letter. Today I received an email from Tatyana. This is where she made her mistake. The letter is an exact duplicate as the last one I had received from her. All except for one thing. My name is Jeff. In the letter, where my name should be is the name "Terry." Apparently she had made a mistake and sent it to the wrong email address. 

I have read that scamers will often write form letters and just fill in the name of patiently targets. I feel that this may be the case here. Below is the letter.

I am a single American man I was contacted on an American singles website named: loveandseek.com The communication lasted approx. 3 weeks she proclaimed he love for me in a  week! She hinted she needed money for a mobile phone after a couple of  letters she asked if I could help her pay for the visa $250 and pass  port  $79 to send it via western union (she seen a commerical) and she said  she  would receive the visa in two weeks one that would allow her to marry  while  she was in the USA. She was creating urgency through her emails the  sooner  she had the money the sooner we would be together! Good thing for  this website because of the information on this site I was able to confirm my  suspension and whated to do my part and share my story/experience. She said me, that will try  to find a cheaper air tickets! I so happy  from this so happy news!  But now, at first, my angel, I will must begin a process of the  registration of all necessary  documents, in total I will need 400 US dollars.   My dearest Jon, if you will send me this so necessary recourses for  this documents, it will be better to do through a system of Western Union Svetlana trust this system Western Union, as She have said me, Western   Union is the fastest and reliable system of remittances worldwide!

Tatyana (Kazan, Russia)

I am a 58 year old Caucasian American man, currently separated. I was first contacted by Tatyana through Yahoo Personals. Almost immediately, red flags went up. She had no personal profile or photo on the site, and due to our age difference and the distance between us, I thought it highly improbable that her contact with me was legitimate. Despite my suspicions, I decided to give it a chance anyhow. Her first direct email to me was extraordinary in length and detail. She attached her photo, which was a portrait shot of a very lovely young woman. Admittedly, this was all a great boost to my ego, although it struck me as odd that she asked for my EXACT date of birth when she already knew my true age. I replied with answers to many of her questions about me, but avoided providing my birth date. When her second email arrived (last night), it too was lengthy and detailed, and surprisingly contained a casual reference to marriage. She did not, however, acknowledge any of the things I told her about myself in my email to her. I had a limited awareness of Russian Bride scams, so I conducted a bit of Internet research to find specifics on how they were currently being performed. There were few surprises, except for the sheer volume of these scams that are out there. I even checked some of the black list archives, but found no reference to Tatyana in Kazan.

I mulled over the situation until this morning, and concluded that I was merely stroking my own ego by allowing her to lead me down this path. I sent her an email thanking her for her interest, but explained that the prospect of a realistic relationship was unlikely. I told her that I wanted to end our correspondence, and I wished her luck.

I also notified Yahoo Personals that I suspected Tatyana represented a Russian Bride scam. Based on Yahoos policies, however, I will not be informed of any action they may take. In an effort to rationalize my decision, I performed a bit more research. I found the Women Russia web site, and decided to peruse the black list archives. Not surprisingly, on Page 334, John had reported an identical experience with the same Tatyana of Kazan on February 01, 2005. 

I was mildly disappointed to find that Tatyana's letters to me were carbon copies of her letters to John. She also sent me the same photos. The only differences I noted were her stated age  26 with John, 35 with me, and that she liked John's structure but my profile. It did, however, make me more comfortable with my decision to stop corresponding with her. I'm now convinced that I avoided considerable emotional trauma and personal expense. Copies of her emails to me, and the photos that were attached, follow in chronological order. Tatyana used the email address, snezshinka74@mail.ru, which differs from the one she used with John.
