Lyudmila Merkusheva (Kharkov, Ukraine)

Thank God I read your scam black list, although I think I would have seen
through this one because of my questions not being answered. She found my as on AOL. I am attaching the photo she sent and the last two letters follow this. I have only written her two letters. Nice of her to give her address and phone number, I will be in Kharkov in September, maybe I should look her up.

Thanks again
Tim Mills

Letter 1

Hi, dear.
Thanks for a letter with your concrete view to our relations. Should we decide that a bit later? We must decide now something less important but more current. The matter is that I'm not able to pay for the Internet in a moment. Could you do that for me? An Internet here in the Ukraine is casts 50 US$ a mounth. Please, send me the money via Western Union Money Transfer. You may get an information about them at www.westernunion.com. I've call them today and they told me that to send money you have to go to any of their offices. You have to know an exact name and address (as written in the passport) of the person you are sending money to. You know all that data of me. But I'll remaind you.

Lyudmila Merkusheva
Academika Pavlova str.146-A, app. 45

By chance it would be that guarantee I was waited for. I meen that if you are not going to pay for my Internet that is you are not serious to me. In this situation I must be happy that I understood it not too late. But if you are really serious, please send me in your next e-mail a transmission number from the Western Union. If you'll do that we will have a fast way (Internet) to discuss our future. Hope to hear from you.

Lyudmila
P.S. And I really hope that one day I'll have a chance to do something for us.

Letter 2

My dearest,
the matter is that at this time I've lost my second job which gives me
usseally a possibility to have an Internet. There is not exist Internet gratis here, in the Ukraine. The bread or vodka, for example here is much cheaper than anywhere, but such a modern things like computer or Internet are much much more expancive. I've written an e-mail to my provider office and ask them about a possibility to pay direcktly to them. And they replyied that it's not possible for them to accept payment from abroad. I thought it would be easier for you morally to pay directly to provider then to send money to me persanly. But it is no way. Also the Western Union is the very one available way for me to get the money because I don't have any bank account. And I don't know if such a things as credit card exist in my country. Ukraine is a very poor and wild country. But also very exotic.......... Well, what could I say........... If you'll find material and also moral possibility to send the money to me for the Internet, we will still have the fastest way to talk. If not, please, write me via regular post.
Yours Lyudmila

Natalia Derevyashkina (Magadan, Russia)

I have been reading your blacklist and I too had almost fallen prey to this terrible person going by the name of "Natalia Derevyashkina". Although I didn't send any money to her, Thank God, I thought I should pass along as much information as possible To keep this from happening to anyone in the future. She now says her Home is in City of Magadan,Street Pushkin 43-90. Height 168 cm. Weight
53 kgs. She's only child and her birthday is June 1, 1974. I trust and hope all of this information helps everyone to stay away from here as although I did not send her any money, My feeling have been hurt. Pictures are as follows and please post them in your site;

Scott from Wisconsin, USA

Nataly Agency (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine)

I wish to add to your list, a possible scam involving the Nataly Agency in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. I have communicated with two different women from this agency and received letters that are virtually identical including the same spelling and grammatical errors. Here is a sample taken from letters that I received from each. One might reasonably expect that initial letters would be "boiler plate" jobs, done by the agencies but these excerpts are not from profiles or initial letters.

From Ella Kostyuchenko:

Maybe I am simplier that you imagine me. I don't speak English because mostly people don't in my country. I don't have a computer at home, because it's very expensive thing and it's luxery to have it at home. I dream about buying one, but it's impossible right now. I use internet service of Nataly Marriage Agency in my city. I have my add there. Presently I don't correspond with anybody, I even don't know why it doesn't work out yet. Maybe because I can't reply sometimes fast. Some people don't understand that life here is very hard and sometimes you can't write a letter by e-mail just because you don't have money to pay for this. That's why I wouldn't like to keep long correspondence, but I would like to know for sure that I have a chance to meet my pen-pal in person.

From Marina Mikhailik:

Maybe I am simplier that you imagine me. I don't speak English , just a very little bit, because people don't speak English here. That's why I wouldn't like to keep long correspondence, but I would like to know for sure that I have a chance to meet my pen-pal in person.

I wrote to Marina (at 11:19:17 AM EDT) pointing out this concern and asking that she contact me in some way other than through the agency if she was real and interested in further communication. Her response was sent back to me at 2:13:18 PM EDT:

Hello XXXXX,
I do not see anything bad that Agency helped me to create my profile. When I came here, I did not know what to write and how to write. I am not a writer, I am a medical nurse. The psychologist of Nataly Agency talked with me for about an hour and offered me an exapmle of a letter which would reflect my character better of all. We were doing it together trying to express my personality, thoughts, expectations. I take this correpondence very seriously because I hope to find my life-partner very soon. I will not leave the Agency. I know that it's a very reliable, honest, and trustworthy company. I talked personaly with women who are now in a process of fiancee visa through Agency! I saw many pictures of happily married couples on displays here, in office! I read letters of our women who were clients of Nataly Agency, and now they live in USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Holland, etc. I trully believe these people are very helpful, they bring people together. They make invitations for visa, they submit papers, do translations, accompany women to Embassy, they do so much job. You offer to me to go somethere else to correspond but do you know how much will I pay for this in another place? Nataly Agency charges less for translation than any English translation service charges. Before this I was a client of Soul Agency here, in Dniepropetrovsk and I spent my money for nothing being their customer for 1 year. But here, in Nataly, I receive letters already and I hope to reach my goal soon. I wish you the best in your searches, Marina Mikhailik.

Note that Marina explained identical lines in her PROFILE and Ella's but she did not address the fact that I was not comparing two profiles but rather LETTERS that were sent in response to my letters to her. Note the times of my last email and her response. Nataly agency received my email, translated it from English to Russian, Marina picked it up and wrote her response in Russian and the agency translated it into English and emailed it to me all in less than 3 hours. Fat chance!

I might not have picked this up except that a few months ago I was successfully taken for a few hundred dollars by Irina Konyakova (Konkova) also of the Nataly Agency in Dnepropetrovsk. She was extremely convincing and I really still don't know for sure if she might just have lost interest in me. If that is so, the timing of her loss of interest was quite fortuitous for her.

Look out guys - these people seem to be good at what they do.

Natasha Kuvshinova (Ekaterinburg, Russia)

I received a reply to my kiss.com account from Miss Natasha Kuvshinova. Natasha sounded too good to be true. Natasha would say all of the right things and displayed such emotion, Natasha even answered most of my questions.

After three weeks of writing she easily fell in love with me and I was even told that I was to be her husband and lover!

Luckily I knew about your site and learned very much about scammers. Natasha met many of the traits of typical scammers. Natasha had no phone, Natasha had no Father. I offered to help with the cost of e-mails but then she said that she goes to internet cafe and can cover the costs herself! (impressive)

Last week I was then told by Natasha that she was coming to the United States and needed 350 dollars for a visa, luckily I knew that in Russia it is very hard to get a visa to the states. I received another e-mail to forward money to WESTERN UNION for airplane ticket for the amount of 983 dollars!

I was very fortunate to have studied about Russia and the ways to obtain visas, this has helped me to save myself from being scammed! I have nothing but praise for this site! I enclose a Natasha's address in hopes of helping others that may be corresponding with her. Also enclosed is a photo.

Thank you!

Oksana Bocharnikova (Ukraine)

I received an e-mail from Oksana Bocharnikova on the 21st of April 2001, informing me that she found my details on a matrimonial website. Her initial e-mail appeared very somber, asking if would want to communicate, leaving the decision to myself. I felt she deserved a chance! However, her next e-mails, really exposed herself, she made claims of love, endlessly referring to me as her "prince", yet knowing very little or seeing a picture of me. I thought it may be due to her weak English. I saw her blacklisted details on your website, and I was alarmed, she wrote to me for over a week, writing almost everyday. She sent pictures of what I thought was her, an exceptionally beautiful girl. I was besotted, and heart broken when I learnt the truth. The pictures she sent to me, were different to that sent in by another victim. She later asked for $80, for her internet costs, she felt if she couldn't pay, she would get disconnected, and therefore couldn't keep in touch with me, I wouldn't have sent money to a complete stranger anyway, but emotionally I was devastated. Please be aware, the approach to me was different, as I am a Muslim, she posed as a Muslim, and seems to have studied my faith in quite some depth .Please be careful and ignore any proposition from her.

I hope we all find genuine women of our dreams

Oksana Petrova (Magadan, Russia)

I just came across Elena Karaseva on your black list. She is the same girl that tried to scam me. The letter that is posted is the same exact letter I recieved except for the guys name and her name. She was using Oksana Petrova, same picture too. She's dangerous, probably contacting numerous men.

Tony

Greetings my love Tony.
I called to the American embassy, they have advised me to take the visa of the tourist. This is visa B-2, it is valid during 90 days. It costs 220 dollars, but I now do not have such money. If you can, send them to me through Western Union, the address of branch  is:

AVANGARD BANK
48A, YAKUTSKAYA STR.
MAGADAN
RUSSIA
685000
OKSANA PETROVA

When you will send money you necessarily need to write ten numbers of a
remittance. This means ten digit you'll be given in Western Union after sending money. I am very glad that you want to see me. Unfortunately, to meet for us are necessary money, but money is only a paper, The main thing is that we shall meet with you. We should trust each other because we love each other and we shall meet very soon. I called to the uncle to Vladivostok and he has told that can make the ticket for me at a discount, but for this purpose it is necessary to know where the international airport nearest to you. Else I talked to my girlfriend who works in travel agency and she has told me that visa B-2 is the best variant for us you to meet. She speaks that when we shall meet we can discuss how we shall live further. Yesterday I saw sexual dream about us with you. It was dreamed to me that we meet with you, as you take me on hands, we go to you home. At your home we go at once to bedroom and you start to undress me, our hearts are beaten synchronously, we are passionately kissed also you start to teach me to all pleasures of sex. I love you and I start to understand that love this such a strong feeling. I am glad that I could test my feeling with your help.

With love forever yours Oksana

Ukrainian Date Club / Olena Makoviy /Alenochka (Odessa, Ukraine)

Here are three subjects your readers may be interested in.

1. VictoriaTours: First referred to on your site by Matt. They no longer use the name VictoriaTours. The are now operating as Ukrainian Date club at http://ukrainiandate.narod.ru

I dealt with them from April 2000 until August 2000.

I had the following experiences. The letters I wrote were not provided to the lady I was writing. From her she told me they were read over the phone. Also, the letters she "wrote" were not always written. VictoriaTours translated her letters via the telephone. The lady's words to me. While this is acceptable, her "letters" always spoke of her traveling to the agency to write and receive letters. Additionally, from the lady's mouth, the letters "translated" for me from her contained subject matter she knew nothing about. Every "letter" from her included one to two subjects that I would classify as "padding". As the agency charges per character it is my impression they did this to increase their revenue.

As to their billing practices, they billed me $20 per month for the lady's "membership". They did this despite my repeated requests to be billed only for translation services. Talking to the lady, she told me she paid no "membership" fee.

While visiting the lady in Odessa, I used their services for business visa registration. The day prior to when they were to return my passport I informed them I was taking an excursion. They informed me I was required to use their services for such a trip. As their fee was 7 times greater than the average cab driver I did not see the need to hire them. When I told them I would not use their services, they made a veiled threat to not return my passport to me. After repeated phone calls and informing them I had a "roof", they backed down.

I changed translation services after the visit.

2. Alenochka: I have met this lady. Twice. She is the friend of the lady I was pursuing. She has been listed with VictoriaTours (a.k.a. Ukrainian Date club) since summer 2000 until late March 2001. During my correspondence with my lady, I was frequently asked to provide a friend to correspond with Alenochka, but NOT to use VictoriaTours. Alenochka told me she corresponded with many men. Alenochka and my lady are very close friends and frequently discuss correspondence with foreigners.

3. My "lady". Her name is Olena Makoviy. During 11 months of correspondence different things occurred. To facilitate her learning of English I provided her $514 in 4 separate payments from September 2000 thru December 2000, sent via Western Union and delivered personally. By her accounting she spent $72 on English lessons. The other money was spent for other "things". She only admitted to (my term) misappropriation after she had written she was not studying because of lack of money and after I asked what happened to the money provided. When confronted about the "misappropriation" she accused me of being greedy. Each time there was some dire emergency. Such as, unexpected "schooling" expense for her daughter, breast surgery (which never occured), etc...

Olena Makoviy is (at least) listed with CherryBlossoms, Excite, Match.com, Kiss.com, AOL, and the EuroConnection sites. She uses the names Elena, Aliona, Alenka and Helen that I know of. Her address is:

102 Dobrovolskogo Apt 91
Odessa 65025
Ukraine

Both Olena and Alenochka live in the Odessa region of poselok Kotovskogo. Olena's e-mail address in her AOL ad is "alenkamakovey@yahoo.com

If I were to categorize her modus operandi about requesting money, I would say it is very subtle. She "hints" at needs for money and the "normal" expectation that it should be provided. She refers to unforeseen "emergencies" and how "it will take time, nerves and money."

Rumor: Shortly after "Alenochka" was removed from the VictoriaTours site (a time corresponding to the post on this site, and the changing of the name of the agency), an e-mail friend in Odessa who was attempting to run an agency related to me that both Alenochka and Olena approached the agency with a business plan proposal to attract men to Odessa by writing letters and splitting the profits of the tour proceeds with this agency. The agency refused. This is "rumor" because the agency does not want me to use their name here.

I can tell you that my experience with Ukrainian Date club, Alenochka, and Olena show me that what westerners perceive as honest business and serious intentions are not what these 3 offer.

The 2 ladies are interested $$$. If this is what you want, go get it.

As to Ukrainian Dating club, I would classify them as criminal. The only reason I think they unlisted Alenochka is because she was operating independently (i.e. she was profiting on her own) and was impinging upon their business.

Regards,
Michael
