I’m Rick from Texas, 46 years old, single-father of one, have my own
business/self-employed, and would like to add to the scam prevention. The email originated from either true.com or match.com, not exactly sure which. The first email came Aug. 2, 2007 and, after becoming suspicious and doing a search and finding this site, I can see that these emails are almost exactly the same as others have already posted (e.g., page 482, 485 Natalia Protasova (Irkutsk, Russia); page 480, Lyudmila Butenko (Smolenka, Russia); page 456, Anna Golovacheva). The name they are using now is Olga Zhirihina.
The email they are using is olcha@mailproact.net. However, the first email came from Cindy25@thaibestmail.info.
The initial email was a short request from a Cindy looking for friends and to exchange pics. After I responded, the name changed to Olga. The story-line is the same, they have an agency that will help them come to the US to work for three months. The flight will leave from Moscow, and in the letters the fictitious person becomes almost immediately increasingly romantic, anxious to meet, and proposing the possibility of love/marriage.
I stopped responding after letter #3. Even then, I still received letters #4 and #5. The money request for $690 dollars came on letter #5. I would have not sent them any money but, thanks to this website, I now know that this is a farce.

I am a 50 year old white male American that placed an ad on Yahoo Personals. Within the first week, Veronica sent a note that directed me to write her at the email address above. Her profile said she was 29 years old and lived in Los Angeles. She deleted her profile 2 days later, and now I recall that Yahoo Personals has a 3-day cancellation period where the person will not be charged; so the scammers cancel their profiles rather quickly! She told me later that she didn’t have a phone, so I could not easily call her and speak to a real person. That was clue #1.
I wrote to Veronica and she confessed in her first letter that she lived in Kazan, Russia. She sent a picture of a beautiful young woman that intrigued me. I got sucked in and began emailing her daily. These girls know exactly what to say to get into a man’s heart. In her 3rd letter, she told me a long sob story about her ex-boyfriend that treated her like trash and how she no longer trusts Russian men. Of course, this story evoked sympathy and a protective response from me. I sent her a beautiful message designed to raise her self-esteem and to make her feel special. I was sure my letter would elicit an emotional response. But in her next email, she barely acknowledged my letter and went on to describe more details about her life. This was clue #2.
The pattern of her emails was similar. The first and last paragraphs usually responded to something I said. The middle section of her
messages seemed like cut-and-paste form letters. The format and justification was all screwed up in the first few letters, something that would not happen if she was writing email at the Internet Cafe as she claimed. Later on, her emails were perfectly formatted with right and left hand justification. I also noticed that she was completely ignoring some serious questions that would determine if we were really
compatible or not. The scammers don’t waste too much time responding to your questions, or risk telling you something that may turn you off. That was clue #3.
Now I was suspicious and wanted to test her. I told Veronica that if the Internet Café was too expensive, I would gladly send her some money to cover the costs. She jumped at the chance and cleverly pretended not to know the method by which I could send her money, and then volunteered to find out. I wasn’t sure if she was scamming me, since I was the one that made the offer. And our letters were getting quite passionate by them. She was everything a man could want in a woman.
Before I sent money, I decided to research this Russian Bride phenomenon. That’s when I found this scam website and the blacklist. Thank you Elena Petrova for maintaining this site. I poured over the recent blacklist entries and Veronica was not on the list. But all the information about fraudulent emails from Russian women rang true and matched everything that happened to me. I was 95% sure that Veronica was a scam. I decided not to email Veronica that day, just to see what would happen.
As luck would have it, by skipping my daily email, the scammers messed up! Veronica got her boyfriends confused and sent an email professing her dying love for “Rollo”. She even claimed to be his future wife! Who the hell is Rollo, I thought. My name is Mike!!! I laughed and laughed at myself. Now I had proof that she was a scam. I decided the game was not over. I pretended not to receive Rollo’s letter. Over the next few days, I accelerated our falling in love and began promising her money for a visa and airfare to come visit me. And I started asking for “more sexy” photos too. I might as well get some bikini shots, I
thought.
After three days, Veronica had not sent any sexy photos and claimed not to have any. I realized the woman in the picture was just an innocent victim. The scammers had downloaded her photos or had access to pictures that did not belong to them. So I decided to spring my trap. Veronica was professing her dying love to me now (not Rollo). She also gave me her real name, Veronica Likova, which might be the only real thing about her. The scammers have to show a photo ID to collect money from Western Union. So in my last email, I told Veronica that I had already sent her $500 US dollars. I said the money was waiting for her, she just had to pick it up. I played the game further and told her to have a trusted friend accompany her, and to watch out for strangers that might try to steal her money. I wish I could have witnessed what happened in the Western Union office when they tried to collect their non-existent money!
I have reported to Western Union that Veronica Likova is engaged in fraudulent and criminal activities. With any luck, she won’t be able to use W.U. to receive money from men that she scammed. I am also going to report her to Google (gmail) to try and shut down her email account. But email accounts are so easy to come by, the scammers will just start over. I was lucky this time, but feel the pain of others that lost money to these seductive scammers.
