On Nov. 29, I got an "Are you there?" note from her. I mulled it over for a couple days and then thought, "What the heck? She seems like a nice lady." and wrote her back on the 30th and told her that if it was a scam, she was wasting her time, and then wrote the rest of the note on the assumption that it wasn't a 
scam. She answered that Angelina was a friend of hers who had moved to The States and it was her YP account that she wrote me from.

We exchanged several notes over the next month and a half, and she proceeded to update the story-line on completing her studies...taking the exam...passing it...handling paperwork from the employment agency...getting a plane ticket to New York...to be flying next Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007. In her notes, she told me of a new business/love relationship with an old classmate that went bad in St. Petersburg, how she sold her apartment in Moscow to finance the dental business and then found the hack in bed with a young dental assistant they hired. Nothing was in writing and he sold the practice and kept the cash. No hint of scam... She told me of how it had affected her and that she had to go back to living with her parents and that her mother, having a heart condition, didn't take it well seeing her only child treated like that. She got over it and decided to continue with getting the certification, after talking with her friend in the US and deciding that she might as well try to make something for herself over here. Other than the initial contact, no red flags -- she conversed with me. By this time, I had researched Russian women and culture to see what I was getting myself into -- and I also found scammer lists like this one. She was not on any of them -- and I looked at all the pictures.

In her note on Dec 22, she said that her mother had heart issues -- which were OK by the next note. In one of her notes, she wanted to know about costs of living, which I provided her. I also, of course, offered my spare bedroom to her. In a subsequent note, she informed me that her agency's US counterpart in New York would be setting her up with housing with part of the fees she had to pay for their finding her work here -- they had a complete program to get their clients set-up, so that would not be an issue. In another note, she told me about her spending a day with an old girlfriend, Ksenia, who was dis-heartened to hear of her business loss, but was quite excited to hear of her plans to come to the US -- and of me. She asked if I knew of any guys for Ksenia. We discussed politics, world events, social issues, etc. All sounded OK...

She sent me a note on Jan 10, with a scan of a ticket for a flight to New York on the 20th. It looked legit, I could see no sign of forgery.

On Jan 13, she wrote to tell me that her mother's heart condition had relapsed and that she had a near heart attack and needed surgery (by her description, angioplasty). She said that she and her Dad put their savings together and the operation was paid and she would be having the procedure done on Monday. She indicated that she could get the $3000 she needed to pay the agency from elsewhere -- not to worry -- she was still coming on the 20th and her parents told her to not miss this opportunity. A bit later in the day,  about 11 PMMoscow time, she called me to say "Hi" and to see if I was a real person. We only talked for a minute amid a soft connection and me with friends in a loud store. She did not ask for money. At this point, realizing that she might be getting ready to ask for money, I adjusted my "fraud index" on her from about 5% (she still was in Russia) to 40%.

On Jan 15, she wrote to tell me that her mother's surgery was a success -- and that her source of money turned her down. She then asked me -- and included a scan of her passport to assure me that she was being honest. I wrote her back and said that this looked like fraud (passports can be forged and I had not idea of what a Russian passport looked like) and that I would not  send that sum of money out of the country to a person whom I had never met, and reminded her of my "If this is fraud..." statement to her in my first  note to her. I then told her that I'd be willing to send money of her behalf to the New  York agency, but that I needed various pieces of information to make sure that they were who she said they were and that they would do as she told me. I also asked for a scan of her visa, or for her to have the agency in Moscow give her the visa number for me if they were holding her visa pending payment of fees.

The last contact I had from her was a note on Jan 17 in which she severely chided me for calling her a fraud (which I didn't). She also did not give me the New York and Moscow agency or her visa info as I had requested. She did give me an 800 number and a couple names in New York -- (800) 670-3297 -- Dayna Teylor or John Smith.

I could understand her anger and hurt -- if it was real. I decided to investigate. If she was legit, I'd help her. I placed two calls to the 800 number she had given me. The calls were routed to "Med-Prof" by an auto-router and then I go rolled to their voice mail -- at 10:00 and 10:30 AM, New York time, on a Thursday -- certainly not to be expected for a high-caliber international business. At 11:00, after being auto-routed, a man picked up the phone and I ask for Dayna Teylor or John Smith -- he indicated that he was Smith. He did confirm her being on their list of clients and that they provided the complete program as she had told me and that her case was on hold pending payment. He offered information, as opposed to simply answering "yes" or "no" and would state things before
I had gotten around to asking a particular question. But, his phone-presence was not as one would expect for such an agency. He also said that they did not accept money for clients, that money could be collected only by the client's agency. I was treasurer for my church for a couple years and we on several occasions helped people make ends meet.  Apartments, utility companies, etc. sometimes asked for payment in a form besides a check drawn on the church, but no one ever said that they would not accept money one someone else's behalf. Apparently, this New York agency was not in business to make money.

At this point, I was pretty certain that the New York connection was a fraud, Further confirmation came from their having no presence on the Web except for a scam report at "http://agencyscams.com/Girls/EkaterinaSidorenkova.html".
This report didn't mention John Smith, "Dayna Teylor" became "Diane Taylor", the amount needed was $1500 instead of $3000, and the phone number was not an 800 number -- but the agency was named " Med-Staff Exchange-Prof Agency" -- close enough. Also, her Russian agency was "Moscow Recruitment Agency", whereas the one in the scam report was "Russian
Consulting".

Needless to say, I sent no money to anyone involved. I have not heard from her since. I today (Feb 18, 2007) found confirmation that she has, in fact, been scamming men. I googled on "anastasiia statsenko", and unlike all previous attempts, this time I got a hit. It was a Yahoo Answers posting which had been deleted due to violation of the rules. But, Google still had the cached page at "http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:JRnmNnniF7sJ: ph.answers.yahoo.com/question/index%3Fqid%3D20070 201104849AATIYNC+%22anastasiia+statsenko%22&hl= en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us". The man was inquiring to see how he could verify her passport.

I will now provide her second letter to me and the letter in which she requested the money. The narrative above contains all the salient points from her other letters As I said, I deleted the first letter she sent, but she pretty well repeated herself in the second one:

like more. As for that nickname I invent some times
ago. It was idea, to got interesting name. The girl on
the picture in profile is my girlfriend. Now she live
in the state with her boyfriend. I used her profile. I
hope you understand me... =) 

Ok, I return to keep our relations.

Tell me about your country and your life there. I'd
like to get some ideas about it before I come. I have
never been to the USA or somewhere abroad except
Turkish resorts. I think the information I can get
from mass media is not too reliable because of
politics playing. I'd like to know what is the life of
the average citizen there. I know it must be difficult
to describe your life in several sentences. Let's ask
each other different questions. This way will do our
acquaintance more effective and easier. 

To start our talking I'll tell you a little about me
and my life here. Now I live in the suburbs of Moscow.
I think you must know this city. Very pretty place in
the summer but a little cold in the winter. It's very
old city but gets very modern now. In the center there
are still many ancient buildings here. It's business
center and the capital of Russia. Too many people but
a lot of opportunity.

To be honest I like St.Petersburg more. I lived and
worked there for 4 years. It's very old city too,
founded by Peter The Great (russian tsar). We call it
"Northern capital". It's the most "cultural" city in
Russia.

I am a dental surgeon by profession. When I lived in
St.Petersburg I opened the private dental room with
my partner and the business was very good. I was very
successful and happy. But the happiness didn't last
too long. My partner defrauded me and I lost my
business. Well, I better stop this topic now.
Probably it's not too interesting. Tell me about your
place. I want to know where do you live? 

Dean I have already told you I am coming to the USA in
one month. I have several job vacancies in the state.
Don't know yet what city or town I'll come. Probably I
will come to your city or somewhere close and I'd like
we'll become friends. :-)

Dean, I tryed to call you some times and I could do
it. I am very happy we could talk a little over phone.
I was very gald to hear your voice and it was nice.
When I called I was very exciting and it was bad
connection. Anyway I am happy we could hear each
other.

Dean, thank you for your congratulation. Today is very
nice day. I met my friends and we went to cafe for
celebrate my Birthday. They made a present for me and
I was very happy. I promised them don't forget about
them and write them the letters from the state. It was

;-) Today my mother had been operated. The doctor said
everything went well. He tells my mother will recover
in few weeks. She just should keep her new regimen and
follow doctors recommendations. She will stay at
hospital for a while and may return home by my
departure. I thank God there were no problem and
difficulties in procedure. My mother is alive and I am
really happy. I know real happiness is when your close
people feel good! 

Dean these days were awful for my father and me. I am
glad we went through it with my father. It made us
more close. It's still a little sad when I see no
mother at home and only my father sitting in his
armchair. But now everything will be allright. I know,
I have a feeling. ;-)

Another news is not too good. That person refused to
deal with me. He was my client when I worked in Zub
clinic and tried to court me for a long time. He is
wealthy man but I can't stand some of his qualities.
He is too bombastic and greedy. When he heard my
request he laughed and asked why I should go to the
USA if I can live comfortable life with him. It was
unpleasant to hear these words and I cut the talking. 

He didn't give me a loan. He said he refused me
because I refused him that time. Dean, can you
believe it? How did he dare to compare these things?
He wants to buy love. But it's impossible. Really,
there are people who think that way? I can't
understand it. He said I would leave for the States
and cheat him and he can't return his money. Now I see
his real face, he judge people by himself and he
doesn't know what means "to give a word". I am glad I
have no relations with him. And I was silly to depend
on him. 

After the talking I tried other options I had. I was
in several banks trying to take a loan from them. But
I was unsuccessful. They don't deal with me because I
am unemployed currently and I don't have any property
to secure a loan. I sold my appartment and invested
all the money in my business in St.Petersburg that I
lost. Also I asked my friends for help but they don't
have such big money. I am so sad and confused. 

Dean I have a favour to ask of you. Help me to come
there, please. I wish I was able to do everything by
my own but things didn't work out. I don't like to
borrow money and I will never do it if I had another
way. You know my flight is on January 20. And I must
pay $3000 to my agency for their service to get all
the papers from them and fly to New York. I won't be
able to find money here and I can't delay it. 

I can't come later because I am not working currently
and I can't save up the money. My certificate will
lose validity if I won't work. Another reason is that
I signed the agreement for a fixed period. I must come
there in December otherwise they won't give me a
vacancy.

I will reimburse all the sum to you in one month. I
counted everything. I will be paid in two weeks after
I start working and I will pay you $1000 that time.
Another $2000 I will return to you in one month. If
you want I can pay extra money to you. I will earn at
least $5000 a month and they'll provide an appartment
for me so I will be able to do it.

it's not right to confuse relations with money and I

concerning the visa. he has explained me a situation about reception 
of the visa to you. Your government has made more strict control over
entrance to the country because of terrorism and consequently to
receive to you the visa uneasy. But the agency will make it for me. 
The agent has told, that they recently already received some visas of
tourists in your country. I am very glad Greg, that we will not have
with it big difficulties. I all over again had fears, that the agency 
cannot it to make or for this purpose very long time will be required.
But the agent has told, that the visa will demand from them two or
three weeks. Tomorrow I will need to reach in office of agency, to 
sign there the contract and also we shall decide question on payment
of them. Now it is time to me to go lovely to make photos for the visa
and to fill in questionnaires for embassy. The agent has told, it 
should be is prepared tomorrow when I shall come to them to office. I

I knew it is true, i heard about it various times, so i sent her a part of this amount since she told me that the rest that was needed will be spent from her mum. It was arranged that she should arrive at Frankfurt Airport on the 19th of February 2007 but she didn't appear. The latest act was, that she wrote me an email saying that she wanted to bring a gift along for me but the custom-control at the airport won't let her pass the control since the gift (an old coin) was a stolen coin (she didn't knew about it) and so they wouldn't let her go. And that was the last email i got from her.....

in some fitness club. I think it is very important to have a job which can give you not only a good salary but also good mood and get a pleasure from your job. What do you think? Unfortunately it is very hard to find such kind of job here becquse we have only a couple of such clubs and there is no vacancy.
Ok, some things wich I also like and don't like to do:
I love cooking and like make BBQ. I so much want to have a house of my own and make BBQs for my close people. I also dream to have a house with a fire place. I love cooking something new and something special. My friends were telling me that I need to work at a reastaurant.
I also love warm weather and I hate winters. Here in Russia winters are long and very cold.



I have never been married but I hope someday, I also don't have kids though I already have an experience of a baby sitter. Sometime ago I had to stay at home because I couldn't find a job and I was helping my aunt with my little niece. I hope one day to find that special one and it is impossible here in Russia because men are real drunkers and very rude. You know for me age difference deosn't matter. I think it is better that you are older then me because older men are more experienced and they know what they want to get from life. I hate evil people and I hate politics. Last few years I associate politics with wars and as you can see from my letter I hate violance and wars.



What I like in a man? Faithfulness and honesty. He has to be open-minded and kind-hearted, also easy-going. And I believe that there cannot be any games in relationship between a man and a woman. It is very important for a man to be a kind man. Maybe you think I am naive but I do belive that love and kindness makes our world still alive. Are you a kind man??? I do believe you are, because soon I am flying to the USA and meet you there.



When I am in the USA I will rent some room near my future work and hopefully we shall spend free time together.I have a question. Is it ok for you if we live together. I mean if we like each other or maybe if there will be something more then just be friends. I think I will improve my English with your help and it will give us a chance to get to now each other better, who knows... We'll see. 



I have a driving license but I am not sure if I am able to drive there in the USA, maybe you will give me a few good lessons.
My head is full of plans and ideas...
I am sorry for a long letter but I just wanted you to know me better. I am flying from Perm's airport to Moscow in a few hours. My flight will take almost five hours!!! I think I will write you tomorrow.

Well, hello my dear Dan!!! 
It is me again. I cannot belive I am in Moscow already. It was a wonderful flight for me and everything went well. Moscow us incredibly big city and it takes for abut few hours to get from one end of the city to another and the traffcit is horribly heavy here. You know even though Moscow is a capital of our big country, it is just like some country. Different people, life and the prices are very very high. People are very rude and angry, they always rush in a hurry and always trying to be cautious. 

When I got off the plane and was waiting for baggage a policeman came up to me and asked me to show my passport. They are all crazy here because of the terrorism. I understand that they are cautious but still I think it is humiliating. I took a taxi from the airport. You know it is not like usual taxi, it is like a small bus. It takes about ten people and costs much less then a usual car taxi and besides this "bus-taxi" is very comfortable and the driver was very polite which happens seldom in Moscow.He even was telling us about Moscow and monuments while taking us down to the destionation.

Life is very expensive here. I was shopping today buying some food and all every-day food costs a few times expensive then in my place. All the rest general things costs a lot of money too. 
I rent a room in the appartment and an old woman asked me to be cautious when I fly ot the USA but I made up my mind and I will fly ot you and meet you because you are a kind and good man and won't do me any harm, I feel it. 
I am sorry if my letter sounds starnge to you but everything is mixed up in my head and I am so excited about my trip. My feelings are overwhelming me. 

I was also at the agency today and my trip information is not ready yet. So, once again, I need you to give me the exact full name of the airport because there are similar names of the airports in different states. I don't want to arrive in some other airport.

Hello again Dan,
You know that I am in Moscow and I think I have already done almost the half of my trip preparations. 
Everything is going so fast and I cannot believe I will be on the plane to come to you in a few days.
Frankly speaking I am very tired. Everything is not so easy as I thought it would be. 
It is rather hard business because of many barriers in this item. 
You even can't imagine how glad I am to meet you and I feel so great thinking about it.

I am very glad to know that we are almost near our goal and our meeting is waiting for us in a few days.

Moscow costed a lot (about 400$) and I had to give 100$ more to complete all travel papers and 30$ to open my visa.

The flight from Perm to Moscow costed so much because the distance is too long. 
I could take a train but it would take a few days for the trip to Moscow and I had no time for the train trip.

Besides the flight tickets cost much more now because after the New Year the prices for the 
gasolne got much higher. I need to buy the tickets before my interview because I told 
you that this is the rule before my visa issuance. Maybe you can borrow me some money? 
I cannot live here too long because every day I have to spend money for a living.
