<MSG>Dear Jan Schakowsky,

My name is Elena Petrova and there are some factual mistakes in your
article about "mail order brides" bill, located at:
http://www.house.gov/schakowsky/article_1_07_04_marriage_trap.html

I know you are busy so I will get straight to the point:

Exactly, the article on your website is saying the following:

"Elena Petrova operates Russian Brides Cyber Guide, an international Web
site for men seeking Russian wives. Petrova, who is based in Australia,
says the process of obtaining a man's criminal and marital history and
then translating it into Russian would be too time consuming and
expensive.

She has launched a petition in St. Petersburg, Russia, to oppose the
proposed U.S. law that would regulate online services. She also said the
1999 study by the INS, now the USCIS, which reported 200 online
international marriage brokers is outdated; instead, she estimates there
are at least 1,000 online services in the United States."

The mistakes are as following:

1) I did not launch the petition opposing the proposed legislation. The
petition was launched by a St. Petersburg marriage agency. I have nothing
to do with this petition.

2) I do NOT oppose the U.S. law that would protect foreign
women-immigrants against of spousal abuse.

It is a much needed measure and I repeatedly expressed my concurrence
with the idea. Please see
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2003/8/prweb77265.htm and
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2003/8/prweb76422.htm, the two publications
from August 2003 where I say that the idea of protecting foreign
women-immigrants is very good and much needed.

I hope you will correct the oblivious factual mistakes in the article on
your website, because I do not oppose the U.S. law that would protect
foreign women-immigrants against of spousal abuse and I did not launch any
petitions opposing it.

Those things are simply untrue.

If you cannot correct those mistakes in the article, I request you to
remove the article from your website in a whole, because it says things
that are not true and those hurt my reputation. The information about me
starting a petition opposing the legislation should be certainly removed
as incorrect and misleading.

I hope you will quickly correct the factual mistakes in the article on
your website, or remove the article.

If the article is not removed within 72 hours from sending this email, I
will have to apply to press and media with a disclaimer and of course I
will have to mention that I have applied to you and did not receive any
response to my complaint.

Please let me know when you remove the article or correct the factual
mistakes in it.
My email is elena@womenrussia.com

Sincerely
Elena Petrova
